overview
I designed a website for author Maithree Wijesekara’s new fantasy book. The goal was to capture the novel’s dark, ethereal atmosphere while creating a user-friendly and immersive experience for readers. The book explores a fantasy world with a dreamy yet eerie tone. The cover art set the foundation for the website’s visual direction, influencing both colour and illustration choices.
moodboard
The author provided a moodboard of images that conveyed an ethereal, dreamy and eerie feeling. This became the guiding reference for the site’s overall aesthetic and atmosphere, as well as the guide for the homepage illustration.
typography & colour palette
To capture the fantasy theme, I chose a dark and moody palette accented with soft highlights, using deep navy (#102545) and a golden hue (#EAC41D) to create contrast and atmosphere.
